MORE INFORMATION ABOUT:
THE ISLAND OF THE SUN:
Isla del Sol is 9.6 km long by 4.8 km. wide and is considered a sacred place, it is said that this place was where God Viracocha came from and created humanity after the great flood.
The island is divided into three communities: “Yumani” in the south, “Challa” which has a white sandy beach on the east central coast and “Challapampa” near the north end of the island, the latter is the gateway to the Andean origins.
The southern part is more visited and there are the most important archaeological ruins such as the Pilkokaina Temple and the Inca stone staircases, which lead to the source of Life. In this part there are various lodges, restaurants-cafes and pizzerias.
The northern part can be accessed by boat from Yumani to Challapampa, or walking 3 hours by a pre-Columbian trail that crosses the island. There are the archaeological sites of La Chincana (the labyrinth of stone walls), the Temple of the Sun, the Sacred Rock and the Table of Ceremonies. There is also an interpretation circuit and an archaeological museum.
COPACABANA:
Copacabana is a small town and municipality in Bolivia and one of the main riverside towns of Lake Titicaca. It is the capital of the province of Manco Cápac, located in the department of La Paz. It is located 155 km from the city of La Paz. It is a pilgrimage center because it is the image of the Virgin of Copacabana, the most widespread Marian invocation in Bolivia.
The city, built between the hills Calvario and Niño Calvario (or Kesanani), has about 6 thousand inhabitants. The capital of the homonymous Municipality is constituted, which includes 33 original peasant communities, with a total approximate of 15 thousand inhabitants. However, the urban population of Copacabana is only about 3000 inhabitants, which means a rural population of 12,000 inhabitants. Copacabana is famous throughout the country for its religious celebrations, its cultural heritage and its traditional festivals.
